Urawa Reds win 2007 AJPS AWARD March 13, 2008 J. League club Urawa Reds, who became the first Japanese club to clinch the AFC Champions League and a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Championship last year, was named to the winners of the inaugural AJPS AWARD. The prize decision came following the ballots by the AJPS members and the discussions by our sports sub-committee chiefs and board members. Reds, under the guidance of German coach Holger Osieck, captured the Asian club title in their first Asian campaign in November. The Saitama-based club narrowly missed the J. League title, but played in the Club World Cup as the Asian champions to finish third. The FIFA tournament was held in three cities in Japan in December 7-16.

Featuring the reviews of the 2007 AJPS Awards and the reports from our sports sub-committees, the 25th-edition of the annual AJPS NEWS magazine has been printed for your read. The annual members' magazine, with a cover picture of Japanese judoka Ryoko Tani at the 2007 World Judo Championships, also reports the photographs of the newly joined members as well as stories and pictures from major international sporting events.

Takahashi wins Asian Cup Photography Contest
|
Takahashi wins Asian Cup Photography Contest December 19, 2007 An AJPS member and photographer Manabu Takahashi won the AFC Asian Cup Photography Contest, it was announced by the Asian Football Confederation in Kuala Lumpur. The photograph which Takahashi won the prize with was taken at the winning ceremony at the Asian Cup on the night of July 29 in Jakarta. It focuses on the trophy held high in the air by the hands of the Iraqi players to celebrate their 1-0 success over Saudi Arabia at Gelora Bung Karmo Stadium in the Indonesian capital. Takahashi, who beat his rivals entered the contest from more than 20 countries, will receive one of the three Asian Cup match balls used in the final, with the autographs of the victorious Iraqi team. "The creativity and symbolism of Takahashi's photo, combined with technical composition and quality, really captured the imagination of the judges," Clare Kenny Tipton, AFC assistant general secretary and director of marketing and communications, said in the AFC official website.

AJPS Magazine available now

The latest issue of the AJPS Magazine is now available.
The 24th-edition of the annual magazine, with baseball player Ichiro Suzuki at the gold-medal winning World Baseball Classic tournament on the cover page, features stories and pictures from major international events such as the Winter Olympi Games in Torino, soccer's World Cup and the World Basketball Championship. The issue, commemorative version of the AJPS's 30th anniversary, also have some pictures from the two AJPS special photo exhibitions held this autumn in Tokyo, ``Soccer'' and ``Beautiful Athletes.'' 30th Anniversary - Two commemorative exhibitions closed in success
|
AJPS photographic exhibitions -- ``Soccer'' and ``Beautiful Athletes'' - both held to commemorate our 30th anniversary at the same time were closedin success in Tokyo.
The exhibition ``Soccer'' was focused on the sport in connection with the World Cup in Germany this summer. Pictures of the players at the quadrennial FIFA tournament, taken by our members, were displayed at the Fuji Photo Salon in Ginza, Tokyo, from October 27 to November 2. Some of the photos from this exhibition will be moved to be displayed at the Japan Football Museum in Tokyo, by courtesy of the museum. The museum is located within the same building of the Japan Football Association on Soccer Street in Bukyo-ku.
The ``Beautiful Athletes'' exhibition, meanwhile, featured pictures taken at various sports competitions over the last 30 years by our members. The pictures, including those of Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer Kosuke Kitajima, late Formula One racing driver Ayrton Sena, received positive reputation from the visitors at the Canon Gallery Ginza in Tokyo from October 26 to November 1.

AJPS celebrates 30th Anniversary in Tokyo
|
AJPS, the Association Japon de la Presse Sportive, celebrated its 30th anniversary on October 27 in Tokyo.
The cocktail reception, held at Nihon Seinenkan International Hall in Shinjuku-ku, met some 100 attendance, including 46 guests from major companies in the area of photography, who have supporting the AJPS for a long time.
Since its foundation in 1976, the AJPS has grown into 143-member organization, consisting of freelance photographers and journalists, who cover sporting events and activities all over the world.
The AJPS also launched two commemorative photographic exhibitions ``Soccer'' and ``Beautiful Athletes'', at galleries in Ginza - the most traditional shopping area in Tokyo, from the day before the reception.

AJPS's PR magazine
|
The AJPS issues its PR magazine, "AJPS NEWS,'' basically twice a year as a part of its communication activities.
Each issue covers seasonable feature stories and photography with high quality - all contributed by our members based on their covering experience at major international tournaments such as soccer's World Cup and the Olympic Games.

AJPS Exhibition completes with success
|
The AJPS held a news photography exhibition, "Sports on the Earth〜 eye's,'' from November 11-24, 2004, at the Olympus Galley in Kanda, Tokyo. The exhibition, which featured 40 pictures taken by our members, received many visitors and positive reputations during the period. It was completed with a successful note.
